Body Positivity: Are You Comfortable In Your Skin?

Do you remember the “Plus is Equal” campaign?  Lane Bryant launched this collection in fall of 2015.  The world went crazy! Was America finally accepting plus size? Looking back on it…I’m not quite sold on it all.  I’ll admit the “plus is equal” movement officially put us plus size girls on the map. I felt as if we were ultimately accepted for being “us”… not just a plus sized or being a fat girl.  I always wondered if this was simply a craze for the moment or, if plus sized women would begin to see fashion or style as just that. …not, just what I can find in my size and deal with it.  As we enter into 2017, has body positivity made a change or, are we simply back at square one?

There’s the saying, “get in formation”, “slay”, “girlboss”, and we cannot forget the most famous one of them all, “DIVA”… but, does your confidence scream these things?  We often talk the talk but do we actually walk it.  Are you comfortable in your skin?  Ladies, this is definitely something to think about.

Being comfortable shows that you are at ease… you are relaxed.  Your style should show your confidence in the selection process.  Your posture is relaxed and upright.  You are comfortable being YOU!  As we settle into 2017, let’s practice relaxation and being pleasant in our skin.  This not only demonstrates our uniqueness it brings out your character as well.

Body Positivity: accepting the body you have as well as the changes in shape, size, and ability it may undergo due to nature, age, or your own personal choices throughout your lifetime.  This is truly being comfortable in your skin.  You must learn to first accept things you cannot change.  Be grateful for life… know you are blessed!

Ladies, you are beautiful at any age… and, at any size. This year, we must focus on confidence and boosting self-esteem. Our personality is depending on it.

Remember… Be Confident, Be Unique, and Be YOU! …and, we never make any apologies for it.

Are YOU Making a Statement?

Making a statement with your style demonstrates character and confidence.  This is the first step towards being genuinely… YOU!

Your personal style statement is simply telling a story of your life; which, is your personality.  This story is being told without you having to say anything about your unique look or style.  It’s interesting to know that your style can tell events occurred both past and present.  Now, one might raise an eyebrow knowing their past could possibly be revealed yet not realizing the true blessing in it.  Your statement shows YOU have overcome obstacles…past, present, and future.  Making a statement can be tough but the self-assurance you gain is well worth the leap.

So, the million dollar question is… How do you know when you are making a statement?

  1. You Know Your Style
  2. Stepping out of the box
  3. Your Walk Screams Confidence

Know your style… Know what looks good on you. Just because it comes in your size doesn’t mean it’s a representation of who you are.  A lady that’s wearing an outfit meant for her silhouette… well, just let me say that the rest is history.

Stepping out of the box… and, being different can be challenging and difficult yet so rewarding.  Ladies, believe it or not, you encourage other women to be bold with their style. You motivate others to represent their unique look confidently, it gives them that slight nudge to try something different.  Yes, women inspire women… isn’t that what it’s all about?

Your walk screams confidence… whenever you step in a room.  Style + Confidence= Personality and ladies be comfortable in who you are.  Like I always say, know your worth and your style because the two are a lethal combination.

Remember ladies, Be Confident… Be Unique… Be YOU! and, never make any apologies for it.

A Lady & Her Cowgirl Boots

It’s interesting how style can be demonstrated so many different ways.  An individuals personality can be portrayed so beautifully through their look..  Now… it’s important to be both confident and sure of yourself.

Why is this?  Well, defining your style is crucial to the outcome of how YOU really are.  It’s a necessity to be true to yourself… be genuine.

I love playing with my look. I’m sure you are well aware of my type of style.  Sassy yet Chic…. it’s my thing!  Whenever I get a chance to play with my look it gives me the opportunity to test both my confidence and personality.

Yep! I decided to test my style with Cowgirl Boots. LOL!

If you really know me… and, I mean really know me…. I’m more of a high heel/pump kinda girl with a twist of flats. Too funny!!  LOL! So, this is definitely stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring my style.

Yes… I’m a lady in her cowgirl boots and proud of it.  It’s ok to test the boundaries and try something new.  You will be surprised at what you discover.

A Burst of Bold Color

_dsc4959-3A few weeks ago, I challenged you all to take a “risk” with your style.  I wanted everyone to step outside their normal routine and try something different.  As stated in my previous blog… change is good and much needed.  Taking risks are difficult and sometimes a hard task to accomplish …but, with a little patience and diligence you can move towards defining your unique style.  You will have defeated your fears of stepping out and being different through style.

I decided to challenge myself to wearing more bold colors.  I love being stylish, yet, it’s usually more on a conservative chic level… if that make sense. LOL!!!  Making a statement with style screams confidence which ultimately requires risk.

Neutral colors are considered safe and it’s appropriate for any occasion.  You have to put in some time and effort to step out with something bold.  I know firsthand how uncomfortable this could be.  That’s why it’s so crucial to take small steps when it comes to adjusting to a style.  Most times, bold colors are associated with prints and, even though it’s the trend, some individuals are still coming into this new found look.  So, I have suggestions….

  1. Beginners. Pick one (1) bold color and offset it with something neutral.  This can help a beginner transition into colors and prints without becoming overwhelmed with a look.
  2. Intermediate. Pair a pop of color with a print.  For example… try pairing a leopard print button down shirt with green trousers/pants.  This gives you the opportunity to test your confidence level.
  3. Proficient. You are definitely confident in your style.  Mixing and matching prints is second nature to you.  Try a black and white polka dot flare midi skirt and a blouse with stripes pattern.  Those stripes can be any color of your choice.  You are mixing prints with patterns and officially stepping out of your comfort zone.

Try something different this week.  Trust me when I say you will definitely feel good about yourself and your style.

Skinny Jeans Full of Curves

Fall is officially here! If you live in the south, you know all too well about this dry humidity. I’m looking forward to the weather cooling off. I’ll admit that fall is my season of choice and, I’m excited to pull out some of my favorite pieces to wear.  The main thing that I love about this time of year is being able to wear a variety of classic staple pieces. The one classic that will transition into fall easily are skinny jeans. Denim can be added to any ensemble and, is definitely acceptable year round.

Like most statement pieces… Denim can be either dressed up or down and, it can work for just about any occasion.  Now, I’m a casual “chic” kind of girl when it comes to denim. I usually pair it with either a blazer or a nice blouse and scarf. The look is normally completed with a pump.  Well… pumps and skinny jeans are just made for each other. In my opinion… at least! I decided to change it up a bit with this look. Yeah, change is good!

Let me first start off by saying that I found these cute strappy suede flats… had to purchase them!  It was the perfect choice for the look. The yellow vest gives an edgy yet sassy look, and the turquoise clutch provides that “pop” of color the outfit needs. The leopard belt adds a nice contrast that brings everything together.

This look would be perfect for brunch with the girls and/or Saturday morning errands.  Either way, you are both comfortable and chic…and, this is definitely a winning combination.

As we ease into fall… remember to take time and experiment with your style.  You’ll never know what you might find.  It could be that “one thing” you need to complete your unique look.

Taking Risks through Confidence

I’m so grateful and blessed to see another year. 36… WOW! My confidence has grown over the past few years. I’m able to define my unique style and, show it off through my personality with ease. Now, I’ll be honest, it hasn’t always been this easy. Confidence involves risk taking which takes time and effort. Yep, risk, it’s vital when it comes to progressing with your style.

Your look says a lot about you. How you think…feel…. it sets the mood for who you really are. This is why being bold and stepping out of your comfort zone is so important. If you never step out and take that risk…well, how, can you truly define your style? How could you really know your likes and dislikes? Take the time to learn YOU!

It’s ok to move outside the box and unleash your unique look. I’m challenging you to a bold test this week.

1. A new color. Try wearing a color you usually don’t reach for. Make sure you pair it with something you are comfortable with. This will make the transition go more smoothly.

2. Switch it up. If you usually wear pants…. try a skirt. This gives you the chance to step out and be bold. Trust me… this will boost your confidence level.

3. Inspired. Check out websites, magazines, thrifty/consignment stores… and, get inspired! Identify a look or style that interest you. Take that and create your own unique style.

The important thing is that you try. No one expects you to discover your new found style all in one day. Remember… risks take time and effort. Don’t worry your confidence will thank you later.

How To: Represent Your Classy through being a SaseeChic

There’s nothing like a Classy SaseeChic… when a woman puts on “the dress” she automatically feels sexy and confident. A confident woman walks different…she talks different… she’s definitely sure of herself.  This is a wonderful thing!   Confidence puts you in the place to really let your personality shine through.  You are well on your way to defining your style and representing your unique look.

This photo was taken downtown, Birmingham, Alabama.  I just loved the look and feel of this building.  The cocktail dress and sparkly pumps complimented the scenery quite well. I totally felt like a SaseeChic in this ensemble.

How does one represent their Classy through being a SaseeChic?

  1. Be comfortable in your skin.  When you look at yourself in the mirror realize this is YOU.  Understand that you must first love yourself before anyone else will.
  2. Learn your style.  Know what looks great on you.  This will come through trial and error… but, patience is key!
  3. Let your personality shine through.  Be YOU!  Make no apologies… you owe no one any explanations.

Remember, your style is unique to you.  It defines your personality!  Before you know it confidence will be second nature.

Until the next blog… Remain Classy!

The Beginning of Being a SaseeChic

The vision behind SaseeChic is to promote confidence and boost self-esteem among the everyday woman.  My mission is to let women know that this can be accomplished at any size…..especially plus size.  Yes, my name is SaseeChic and I’m a plus size woman.  Does this affect my confidence?  At this time in my life… Heck No!  Well, let me be honest and say I haven’t always being at this place.

Confidence and Self-Esteem is a marriage that can be doomed from the beginning.  …but, with trust and open communication the relationship can potentially last for years and years to come.   I must admit  that I too struggled in this marriage.  I was determined to beat the odds and save my confidence.  First step…accepting me for ME.

Confidence… it’s a wonderful thing!  I just love how it can bring out one’s personality.  At this point, you are comfortable and your self-esteem is definitely feeling the affects of your new found YOU.  Wow… this is definitely a wonderful thing!  It’s the beginning of being a SaseeChic.
